How is this market evolving? Metal shaft structures are a necessary component to provide any type of building with additional lift systems, therefore they are essential to combine structural and aesthetic needs. What is the relationship between these two elements and how is the design phase developed?

We talked about this with three companies, known for their great expertise in this sector, that already confirmed their presence at GEE, Global Elevator Exhibition: Cast Strutture, Indastria Srl and Lifting Italia Arealift.

According to Riccardo Bracco, CEO of Cast Strutture, aesthetic and structural requirements must not conflict with each other, but they must coexist so that everything works for the best.

“Everything starts from the client’s wishes – explained Bracco –. Those who will use the lift should have the right to best express their needs. As professionals, it’s up to us to make a wish come true, using our experience as a guide to the best choice. Aesthetic and structural requirements should not clash, but we must always find a way to make them coexist so that everything works.”

The same idea is shared by Alessandro Bernardi, Sales Director of Indastria Srl, who explained that “When designing the project to install a lift, metal structures have always played a significant role. In order to achieve an optimal result, it is necessary to find a balance between technical requirements, structural aspects and the interface with the building, and, last but not least, the aesthetic impact, which gives value to the building in which the lift is installed. The technical co-ordination of the aforementioned aspects and the vast range of structural solutions, together with the infinite choice of aesthetic finishes and RAL and crystal colours, ensure the achievement of an aesthetically valuable result, as well as the total compliance of the work with the current lift and structural regulations.”

As explained by Riccardo Mattioli, R&D & Technical Manager of Lifting Italia Arealift, “Metal structures are a fundamental component for the installation of a lift system, as they support the weight of the elevator and ensure its stability. In the design phase, structural and aesthetic considerations must be carefully evaluated and balanced.” Mattioli went on highlighting the importance of developing adaptable structures: “Thanks to years of experience, we are now able to offer the CROSS 50.2 structure, a steel structure that can be placed both inside and outside the building. It consists of uprights and connecting crosspieces for the insertion of glass or blind panels into the structure. It has clean lines that are suitable for all environments. CROSS 50.2 structures are compliant with the NTC2008 standards for installations in seismic zones. If necessary, we can attach a technical report to the project as required by Italian law.”
